is that some sort of fucked up metaphor (the cockroaches not the dove)? and if they are... what do they mean? if they aren't, are they a sign? and if so, what is signified? searching for meaning in juxtaposition... or, knowing he conversation can we make assumptions, remembering though everybody, that I was on the phone and so was not crawling around the bed, which I may or may not have done at other times.

Neal, you have an overactive literary imagination.
While we talked, a stream of moonlight splashed onto my bedroom floor, casting frightenlingly tall cockroach shadows.
You imagine that the cockroaches are a metaphor. I simply imagine that they will eat me in my sleep.
If they were going to eat you, you'd be all gone by now. Wouldn't take that many that long to eat a skinny girl like you.
